Archive News - Archaeological Excavation for Riddlesworth Teacher

This Christmas and New Year are going to be rather unusual for Riddlesworth's Year 5 Form Teacher.

On Boxing Day Sally Wallace-Jones left for Egypt to take part in an archaeological excavation.  She will be working at the site of Mersa Gawasis on the Red Sea Coast.  Before becoming a teacher Sally travelled and worked as an Egyptologist.  Her specialist knowledge of ancient Egyptian ceramics will be put to good use as part of the team which is excavating a 4000 year old port.  Ancient ships, cargo and living accommodation have all be found at the site.  The work is being carried out by archaeologists from Boston University in the USA and the University of Naples in Italy.

Sally is looking forward to making discoveries at the site and on being able to share her new knowledge with Year 3 when she teaches them about Ancient Egypt in the summer term.

You can see more about Sally's work at www.egyptdig.blogspot.com and follow the results of the excavation while she is away.
