Reliving my childhood joy of the three Musketeers was a pleasure, as last Friday a Fencing instructor came in to teach ten of our pupils the basics of this historic and sophisticated sport. The instructor explained the subtlety and tactical nature of the sport, likening it more to game of chess rather than some grand swashbuckling D’Artagnan style.
Our pupils were thrown straight into the deep-end, wearing a protective mask and padded vest, they worked on key positions, their foot-work and lunging, as well as how to best react to their opponents moves, shuffling back and forth before striking. It was a thoroughly exciting and practical lessons, much enjoyed by our pupils, who are looking forward to the next installment.
